Abstract

Different extracts of Curcuma longa, code named as PC/CL/SWP05, CL/111107506 and PT/0606188, each at three doses 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg were evaluated for their analgesic activity using different animal models of analgesia. PT/0606188 exhibited significant analgesic activity in the tail flick test at 400 mg/kg one hour after administration. CL/111107506 exhibited significant analgesic activity in the tail withdrawal test, one hour after administration at a dose of 100 mg/kg. All the three extracts significantly reduced the number of writhes in the acetic acid test except for PT/0606188 at a dose of 100 mg/kg. PC/CL/SWP05 demonstrated only peripheral analgesic activity while CL/ 111107506 and PT/0606188 demonstrated both central and peripheral analgesic activities.

Abstract

Biomedical scholars are increasingly turning to electronic databases to find information. No database can contain all the available information. Thus each database has its own limitations. Therefore, some may be asking, "Do I have the right database to find what I need and if not, where is the right database to be found?" There are dozens of health science databases provided by the National Library of Medicine, and from some commercial publishers like Cochrane Collaboration, OVIDSP, and EBSCO, hundreds of more databases from other vendors. Also there are Online Databases having full text links (such as AIDSDRUGS, CANCERLIT, PUBMED CENTRAL, SCIENCE DIRECT, MD CONSULT, GOOGLE SCHOLAR) etc. It is found that database for the requirement of information is the best strategy, which depends on awareness of the users about the databases where librarian have to take responsibility of creating awareness and training users.

Abstract

Detailed dicussion of electroless nickel processes in terms of electrolyte compositions and electroless deposition conditions are reviewed. Electroless deposition of Ni-P, Ni-B, Ni-P-B and their composites with solid particles (SiC, Al₂O₃, Boron, Diamond and PTFE) are considered. Properties of the composites such as micro hardness, wear resistance, friction and corrosion resistance are discussed in terms of coating composition and structure based on literature information.
